catching up
This is part of a bigger glut I'm uploading of the decorative/dreamscape work. Some are still being tweaked and assembled. about 7"wide x a little under 3inches tall. acrylic ink on wood.
acrylic ink on canvas 5"x7"
This may look familiar. I had a bookend opposite painting I had painted with a matching frame. This one was tweaked for a trade for cat sitting while I was going to the east coast. The frame is 13"wx11" and the inside painting is a 7"x5" canvas
More entries will be coming tomorrow, and likely daily too until at least the new year. Been working on various painting projects but I have been juggling family matters that need to be attended to.

experiment- digital preplanning
the basis for this was a request from a friend to interpret the outlines of 3 parables (that he hoped to share with a class he is taking)
1. A hornet walks unaccosted amongst a sea of ants. He is very busy accomplishing his important mission. What he is doing is not of concern to anyone but him. But it is necessary, nonetheless, that it be done. He is for the moment indispensable.
2. Twin sisters grow together and reach for the sky. At long last, upon near maturity, they are able to interweave their branches in a mutually supportive embrace. The second twin -- by a twist of fate -- ends up being the middle, and therefore central, support for two or more families who depend on one another as a bulwark against the power of the wind.
3. A thistle chooses to grow upon a path traveled by beings who are not limited by roots. It does not occur to her that her fearsome thorns will not protect her from these sorts of dangers. But she has cast her lot and must now bear the pain.
The plan for this is to paint a tryptich on 12"x24" canvases. I was planning it out on 3"x6" canvases but did not get it to where I was comfortable with it, and wanted him to have a least one completed idea for his class. I was returning to the DC and Philly area and I couldn't pack all the paints needed. So I worked it out digitally by drawing in Photoshop and manipulating lights and textures ,which fortunately pleased my friend. It will be a starting point but may deviate in the actual larger painting.
I've usually keep my digital and painting projects separate, but this was a pragmatic solution to a time and material crunch. We will see how it translates in paint.

outdoor on scene tree painting in progress part 2&3
to some degree I feel like I'm repainting it... (the previous nights were cloudier and reflected more red in the sky) but I think I did manage to make some progress forward. I might be able to continue tomorrow night but most likely not until Monday evening. I'm glad the evenings aren't too cool yet.

outdoor on scene tree painting in progress
I'm back to working on a painting directly from life on scene I started before everything started getting extreme on the family/home front. At that time & after all I could concentrate on was the making of my minis for the holiday season. Tonight and tomorrow are fairly warm so I needed to take advantage or lose my shot till spring. I hope to finish it tomorrow night. Hope. approximately 2x3 feet, alkyds (a type of oil paint) on wood panel.

Custom Painted Guitar Pedal complete
enamel paint on metal
edit 7/10/14- Please note I painted a couple of guitar pedals as an experiment (including this one) and to accommodate a special request several years back.
Due to the high toxicity of the enamel and the high level wear and tear the pedal gets by nature, I choose not to do this sort of work anymore. I cannot ensure the images will remain intact after years of heavy use. There will be updates soon on a new gallery where current work will be displayed.

Custom Painted Guitar Pedal in progress
Guitar pedal front in progress (as of 11/10/11) more details in the trees and the dials have to be assembled. I had started this over 3 times. Third was the charm. It's not done yet but I'm finally happy with where it is going.

Perfect Day to Chase Tornadoes.
"....And sometimes I’m glad I built my mansion from crazy little stones.
But sometimes I feel so goddamned trapped by everything that I know.
And I wish it wasn’t so, cause the only thing that anyone should ever know
is that today’s a perfect day
to chase tornadoes.
Yeah, when the wild wind whips around your head you know,
that you have found a perfect day to chase tornadoes. "

fertility piece
I did this as a sort of fertility piece a while back for a friend trying to conceive. It worked, or perhaps she just happened to have success at the same time she received it. (The kid turned out to be an awesome little artist btw.) I had taken it back for some touch up/repairs. (I used to use gold oil stick for metallic touches but it turns a muddy brown after a few years. I retouched with gold oil paint this time. And a little black here and there.) oil paint on 12" round wood panel

Trio
I gave this trio to my mom a little over two weeks ago for her bedside (with little easels), which now belongs to my sister. She's getting a little collection going of my past and present stuff. The middle piece is my sister's insane former feral maine coon, (my sister calls her Pukov aka Pookie , aka Spookie--my variation which I think she said is Bulgarian for "fluffy" --correct me if I got it wrong, Jan) now pampered quirky highly playful princess who kept me & mom entertained. The green and blue canvases are about 3" square, the bronze colored one is 2" square. Acrylic and acrylic ink on miniature canvas.
