to some degree I feel like I'm repainting it... (the previous nights were cloudier and reflected more red in the sky) but I think I did manage to make some progress forward. I might be able to continue tomorrow night but most likely not until Monday evening. I'm glad the evenings aren't too cool yet.

I'm back to working on a painting directly from life on scene I started before everything started getting extreme on the family/home front. At that time & after all I could concentrate on was the making of my minis for the holiday season. Tonight and tomorrow are fairly warm so I needed to take advantage or lose my shot till spring. I hope to finish it tomorrow night. Hope. approximately 2x3 feet, alkyds (a type of oil paint) on wood panel.

I started a nightscape featuring a big tree lit up by the apartment lights right outside my door.

 First Step:

the vine charcoal general mapping of shapes. When I put the first wash of oil down, I completely lose the marks.

Second Step:

I covered the surface with burnt umber and start to pull out the most extreme areas with a "paint eraser" (a rubber chisel type thing) and rag. I went into the warmer areas (like the sky) with burnt sienna. Next session will go full on in with color and battle it out. Approx. 2'x3' oil on wood panel

I need one more session to punch this one up a bit. Tomorrow most likely. I'm about to finish that long skinny canvas outdoor self portrait (in an coat) I started in the cooler weather before it gets any hotter. I'm going to bake anyway though.
